Halfacre: I Can Raise (and Beat Holt With) One Million Dollars
| March 12, 2010 The single largest concern surrounding Mike Halfacre's NJ-12 campaign has been fundraising, Save Jerseyans. He had approximately $40,000 on hand at the last reporting period.
In the latest installment of MoreMonmouthMusings's interview with Mike Halfacre, the Mayor asserts that he will have around $150,000 to report on April 15th (raised, not cash on hand). The final figure will depend on whether Mayor Mike wins the Middlesex and Monmouth lines this month. If he does, the money should start flowing in and this race could be a real dogfight to the finish. Without the Middlesex and Monmouth lines, Sipprelle will have to spend an obscene amount of cash just to survive the primary. Possible, but difficult to do.
Conventional wisdom (and your Blogger-in-Chief, in the interest of full disclosure) assumes that Sipprelle's money and the endorsement of the incoming Middlesex chairman should be enough to help Scott win on the 27th. Whether Halfacre's victory at Wednesday's screening committee signals an upset in the making will be a matter of great interest to yours truly and everyone else who is trying to handicap this wacky race.
Enjoy Art's new segment. He really presses Halfacre on the money issue:
Do You Support Trenton's A.C. Takeover?

For too long we have been too complacent about the workings of Congress. Many citizens had no idea that Congress can retire with the same pay after only one term, that they don't pay into Social Security, and that they specifically exempt themselves from many of the laws they pass (such as being exempt from fear of prosecution for sexual harassment), while ordinary citizens must live under those laws. The latest is to exempt themselves from the Healthcare Reform that is being considered -- in all of its forms. Somehow, that doesn't seem logical. We do not have an elite that is above the law. It doesn't matter if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent or whatever. The self-serving must stop. This is a good way to do that. It is an idea whose time has come.
Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution:
"Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States."
The above text has been circulating around the Internet. I'd like to know if Mr. Halfacre would pledge to propose and support such an amendment.

I have been a loyal Republican for more than 30 years. If Mike Halfacre is our candidate, I will not vote in November. I want to defeat Holt, but there are some things I will not do to win. Voting for Mike Halfacre is one of them.

Anonymous Republican of over 30 years ... you are not alone. I have heard this from so many Republican loyalists in this election cycle. Politically savvy from all his years manipulating the system for material gain, Halfacre doesn't state his position on actual specific issues like the one above. Instead he and his band of opportunistic thugs will make every attempt to divert attention from it, change the subject, and resort to the playground bullying tactics that have gotten him this far. If he is the candidate, we have lost the greatest opportunity of the decade in the 12th.

Sadly, I feel compelled to agree with you. I despise Holt, but honesty and ethics are more important than winning. The “win at all costs” mentality is characteristic of Obama and the Pelosi/Reid Congress. This is precisely what is going on now with the Democrats trying to pass their odious and unpopular health care bill. We need to change the culture in Washington. Unfortunately, Mike Halfacre has shown that he will say and do anything to win. I don’t want to send somebody to Washington who is simply going to embrace the existing culture of corruption.

Ditto! I'm another lifelong Republican who will not vote for Halfwit under any circumstances or give any donations to any Republican official who supports him. Halfwit is a disgraceful thug and personifies everything that is wrong with Congress and most politicians.
