S799 is a Pro-Choice Bill

 | March 3, 2010

The State Senate's Health Committee will take up S799 this Thursday, March 4th. You can read the full text for yourselves by clicking here.

It's a bad bill that should never see the light of day, Save Jerseyans. Loretta Weinberg's co-sponsorship should've been your first clue!

Essentially, the legislation is aimed at making adoption a more difficult option for birth mothers. When a young woman is making the difficult choice between adoption and abortion, the benefit of anonymity is often an important selling point for choosing life. Such deliberations usually occur under the most emotionally turbulent circumstances. S799, however, would rob women of the choice to remain anonymous. It would allow public access to sealed adoption records. Going forward, birth certificates would not be sealed for adoptions occurring after the law’s hypothetical passage.

Yet again, the "pro-choice" crowd proves that they're really not interested in "choice" after all.  There's absolutely no good reason not to honor the right of a woman to choose life unless, of course, your secret goal is to encourage more abortions.

Call your legislator and the Governor, too, and tell them you don't support this bill! Lives are on the line... quite literally.

How does allowing adopted kids find their birth parents encourage more abortions, Matt?

You have an interesting take on this particular issue. I should firstly say that I appreciate your consideration of issues pertaining to make abortions less necessary/desirable options for women (rather than focusing exclusively on banning abortion, like some commentators).

I fail to see how the bill in question is "pro-choice" in any meaningful sense of the term. Indeed, it would seem that, in making adoption that much more difficult, this legislation would limit the choices available to women. Thus, I would think that pro-choicers should be just as inclined to oppose this latest attempt to institute laws that are functionally oppressive to women.
