Save Jersey POLL: Are Sipprelle's Dem Donations Disqualifying Offenses?

 | February 7, 2010

The NJ-12 Republican Primary promises to be a raucous affair right through the finish on June 8th, Save Jerseyans.

Thus far, Scott Sipprelle seems unable to cultivate extensive grassroots support and Halfacre appears incapable of raising serious campaign cash. Sipprelle can certainly end it all by using his ample fortune to purchase support at the county committee level. "Money talks and bulls--t walks" at a screening committee meeting, since congressional races are expensive affairs that freeholder-focused county organizations are loathe to undertake lightly. Partial or full self-funder are almost irresistibly attractive; a split decision is Mayor Mike's best hope.

At the center of Sipprelle's base problems, however, are several generous donations to Democrat Congressional candidates including Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY). Save Jersey was first to break the story, and some national political outlets decided to run with it. You can read the original blog post here.

So what do you think, Save Jerseyans? Do Scott Sipprelle's donations disqualify him in your eyes? The NJ Tea Party thinks they do. The group endorsed Halfacre last week and cited Sipprelle's donations as the tie breaker criterion...

Vote! And state your case in the comments section:

Do Scott Sipprelle's Dem Donations Render Him Unsuitable for the GOP Nomination?
Yes! Real Republicans don't donate to Chuck Schumer.
Maybe. Not the only factor, but definitely doesn't help!
No. It has nothing to do with his ability to serve
Completely Undecided
No Opinion... not a factor capable of affecting my support.

His donations might not be a problem, if he would stop lying about them. From More Monmouth Musings:

When asked about his contribution to Schumer, Siprelle said his boss at Morgan Stanley made him do it, and he left Morgan Stanley as a result. Problem: He left Morgan Stanley in 1998 and opened “his own investment firm” according to his biography on his website. He made the donation in 2002, while working for himself.

When asked about his contributions to five Democrats in 2009, he said he “did it to influence the healthcare vote”. Problem: He made those donations in June, 2009, and the Healthcare bill wasn’t even introduced until July 14, 2009. He admits he gave political contributions to 1) influence a vote, and 2) Influence a vote on a non-existent bill.

When asked to appear in front of the NJ Tea Party, he cancelled, as he was concerned about being treated uncivilly. Awwww "It's also notable to mention that Scott Sipprelle has repeatedly refused to meet with representatives of tea party groups and conservative grassroots organizations.”

    Dodge #2
When asked issue-specific questions by a reporter for US1, he avoided the questions with non-answers about being a “holistic candidate”.

"Republican" Assembly candidate Barry Funt donated $500 to Obamacare Democrat Ben Nelson, a decisive vote for socialized medicine in the US Senate. But that didn't stop Clowns with Attitude from endorsing Funt, and Michael Illions in fact defended the Funt donation to Obamacare Nelson.

Your postings would have more credibility if you weren't so blatantly biased Matt. Where's the obvious missing poll answer option: "No! It shows he thinks for himself and is not some right-wing extremist"
