VIDEO: Obama Supported NASA Before He Tried to Defund It

 | February 6, 2010

President Obama is taking a hatchet to NASA's budget, Save Jerseyans.

Man will never walk on the Moon, or any other extraterrestrial destination, if this President has his way:

"President Barack Obama wants to make dramatic changes in how NASA functions, jettisoning plans to return to the moon, letting private companies handle human transport into lower orbit and focusing the nation's space agency on new rocket technology.

...

Obama wants to boost NASA's budget to about $20 billion a year over the next five years. The plans include extending support of the International Space Station to 2020.

But on the chopping block is the moon effort, which includes the Ares rocket program and the development of the Orion crew capsule. More than $9 billion has been spent so far on the programs and it will cost an additional $2.5 billion to shut it down."

This is what happens when government starts focusing on "big government" issues instead of "big picture" issues, Save Jerseyans.

The government is more concerned about making generic vitamins cost $15 less per bottle than ensuring the enrichment and survival of our species. It's a deliberate strategy, too. Politicians like Obama use our tax dollars to narrow the electorate's focus. That dynamic makes it completely impossible to focus on issues of significant importance AND easier to buy votes with domestic spending schemes. Would we ever have the collective resolve to tackle the abolition of slavery, the construction of a national highway system or the engineering of giant canal in the age of Obama? Doubtful! He's far too busy redistributing our paychecks.

And the most galling part of this whole story? Obama promised to fight for the space program during a stump speech in Titusville, Florida during the 2008 Election.

I’m just too curious why our president wants to support more projects of NASA outside our world. Did he ever think of the living species (us) here inside the planet Earth? I don’t want to be hypocrite or something, but what we need our not discoveries in other planet or constellation – but “discoveries” on how we can attain economic recovery. Many states are still in deep recession that cause further increase on unemployment rates, poverty and hunger. Can Pres. Obama allocate more funds for economic recovery than NASA’s function? I’m not saying that NASA doesn’t support any functions to us but I don’t think that they need to have more funds than our economy. Well, let’s just wait and see.
