Did Cryan Pay for the Daggett Robocalls or Not?

Matt Rooney | November 18, 2009

Christopher Daggett, the independently atrocious candidate and distant third-place finisher in our November 3rd gubernatorial election, is now "demanding" an investigation into the mysterious robocalls you heard about first here at Save Jersey and over at MoreMonmouthMusings:

"Daggett's campaign said it had no knowledge of the calls in which a woman criticizes Christie for being "extremely wrong when it matters most" and admitting to the New York Times that he's already backing off his promises -- key talking points for the Democrats. The unidentified woman then said voters should "remember Chris Daggett's words: 'It's never wrong to vote for the right person,'" quoting a familiar Daggett line.

The call closed with a disclaimer that it was paid for by the "NJDSC, 196 West State Street, Trenton," which is the address of state Democratic headquarters. Corzine's name was never mentioned."

Old news. Chris Daggett needs to pick himself up and move on. We beat your tax-and-spend liberal rear end, Christopher -- just get over it! Go "stalk" another "horse" if it suits you. This sore loser behavior is unbecoming of even a life-long bureaucratic hack such as yourself. Be a man, stand up and face the fact that your days of being spoon fed cushy public appointments and contracts from the Corzine Administration are officially over.

Cheer up: there's always life for a New Jersey politician after your days of raping and pillaging the public coffers draw to a close. Maybe you can flex your environmentalist muscles and scrape by hawking pot plants once the medical marijuana bill passes through the state legislature? Or perhaps you can dust off those miserably-bad neon green yard signs and hold out for a leading role in the next Batman remake? My advice, as always, is to keep your options open!

But wait -- this is where our story gets really strange:

"The Daggett and Christie camps allege the calls were made by the Democratic State Committee. Daggett's campaign says the calls made it appear his campaign was working with the Democrats, and Republicans accused state Democrats of trying to trick GOP voters into casting their ballots for Daggett in an effort to aid Corzine.

In a separate letter sent earlier this month to ELEC, Christie campaign counsel Stephen Edelstein asked the state to investigate the automated phone calls.

State Democratic chairman Joe Cryan has said the state committee was not behind the calls."

Hold the phone. After initially denying responsibility for the robocalls, the NJDSC did step forward on Election Eve and admitted that they were behind the robocalls:

"The Democratic State Committee now admits paying for a robocall to Somerset County voters that slams Republican Chris Christie and promotes independent gubernatorial candidate Christopher Daggett.

A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon.

Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment."

So did I miss something here? Is this latest NJ.com article just shoddy reporting by the Star-Ledger's staff, or is the NJDSC once again changing its story and denying responsibility for the pro-Daggett robocalls?

What did Joe Cryan know and when did he know it, Save Jerseyans? The voters certainly deserve answers, but the Assemblyman can save his breath and confide the truth in Chris Daggett alone... he's the only remaining Election '09 participant who actually cares!

10-1 says it was the GOP who set this up... within any robo calls, you do not have to state the address or phone number from which it came... It was someone inside GOP to make democrats look unethical. It's a logical and rational reasoning. Which is why all sides of the aisles are wondering where it came from.

which is why I continue to laugh as you attempt to post the news. lol.

and another thing. look how much Daggett was paid by Corzine for his one environmental report. I'm sure you'll find that shocking. cause he didn't get paid at all for it, it was something to actually help NJ.

Christie is going to go down in flames... I wouldn't be surprised if he quit after a year, and approval rating will be at most 30%

Dumbest comment ever. If the GOP did it, why did the NJDSC own up to it eventually, retard?

Just prove you didn't read the above... the Dems aren't saying they know where the call came from now... so why not investigate. What do you have to lose?

The Dems admitted it. Now they're denying it.

Ummm... why investigate? Just arrest Cryan! He's a scumbag.

Your comments prove you have the attention span of a Jack Russell terrier. The Dems denied it. Then they admitted it.

"Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call" This comment on the subject.

Go away and come back with some intelligence... that could help you.

That quote is featured in the article in which the Dems admit making the calls (11/2), it is used to reference Cryan's initial denial (11/1).

With dumb faggots like you as his base, its no reason Dagget got 6%.

Then if this isn't settled then why would Chris Christie's lawyer send a letter to the ELEC executive director, Jeffery Brindle, for an investigation? And yes, this happened after the election.

And the person who broke the story, would not admit to who actually "ratted" on the Democrats, meanwhile this is much needed information to actually report on it.

Plaxico, really, thank you for the acknowledgment, it helps your maturity and true cause. lol. it's good to see you doing some reading for once.

I think Chris Daggett ran the robocalls against himself. Needed an excuse when he got his ass handed to him. Liberal 101 to blame someone else! Perfect out.
