Popes promulgate encyclical letters on varying occasions.   The encyclicals are a response to an area of the human dilemma, which is in need of clarification.   The Pope inhabiting the Chair of Saint Peter will spend some time reflecting on the Deposit of Faith before applying the truths of faith and reason to addressing a given problem.

Pope Benedict XVI had sensed a problem with the contemporary relation between labour and capital.   While working on his encyclical, the global economic recession occurred.   The Pope reflected on the situation and after many delays - finally - issued Caritas in Veritate.   I have not yet read the document, but can pretty much guarantee you that most analysts will get it wrong.   When I read the document I will share my thoughts with you.   For now, here are some of the thoughts from across the pundit-sphere.
