Was American Independence Really Worth It?

Matt Rooney | July 4, 2009

Some of our friends in Massachusetts, lead by YR superstar Karen Sautter, wonder aloud whether the American Revolution was really worth it. Would America be better off under an 18th century British King than politicians like Barack Obama, Deval Patrick.... or Jon Corzine? Did George Washington and his army suffer a brutal winter at Valley Forge in order to watch their progeny pass stimulus packages, seize private banks and enact cap and trade? Did the Founding Fathers really spend months drafting a groundbreaking constitution only to have future jurists and judiciaries ignore the document altogether? Did Abraham Lincoln die for a new birth of freedom, only to watch black Americans languish in under performing schools and dangerous cities?

Of course my query is offered in jest, Save Jerseyans. Just listen to the plight of Massachusetts taxpayers and ask yourself if our elected officials are living up to the principles of the American founding. The answer is a resounding "NO"....
