Save Jersey Exclusive: An Interview with Rocco Riccio

Matt Rooney | March 23, 2009

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with one of the most controversial figures in contemporary New Jersey political lore: Rocco Riccio. This is his first full-length, sit-down interview about his life and experiences in New Jersey politics since the fateful events of 2007 and 2008.

Rocco is well-known for his role at the center of the political and personal relationship between Governor Jon Corzine and his sister-in-law Carla Katz. Rocco's own friendship with the governor ended famously with a $362,500 confidential settlement. Unfortunately, the parameters of that agreement limited Rocco's ability to discuss certain issues. Nevertheless, we did talk extensively about his personal background, his interactions in state politics, and much of the institutional corruption he has observed during his career in state politics and government. Some of his answers and biographical information just might surprise you.

I present this interview with one intention in mind, Save Jerseyans: to help shine a bright light on the problems afflicting our beloved state. Love him or hate him, Mr. Riccio has unparalleled knowledge of the institutional corruption that has made New Jersey infamous. For his part, Rocco was an affable and articulate participant in this interview series and I thank him for it. My hope is that our interview will alert more of our fellow New Jerseyans to the persons and problems responsible for destroying our state, our democracy and our prosperity.

Part I and II are featured below, in which we try to focus on Rocco's background and his relationship with key figures including Carla Katz. Parts III and IV, discussing Rocco's first-hand experience with big government and corruption in state government, will be posted tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24th.

PART I:
"A Reformed Street Thug"

PART II: Canada, Katz, Corzine and Rocco's Book Proposal

Seems like an alright dude. No less believable than Jon Corzine!

Good job, Matt! Keep up the great work. You're doing the job our newspapers and television news used to do.

More tabloid-quality journalism from a far right blog and a nut job blogger.

No one with half a brain will believe this opportunist Riccio.

Regardless of whether or not people will or should believe Mr. Riccio should his story be suppressed? Should no one give the public access to all possible information from which they can make their own educated determinations?

The main stream media has largely failed the public by making those determinations for us... blogs are just about the only medium the public has going to get the full scope of relevant information. Keep up the good work, Matt.

Rocco is a loser and yesterday's news. He kept claiming big doings about a book and he avoided everything evertime you asked him. Why did you ever give him the time of day? If you keep spending time with jerks like him, you will lose all credibility. You should take everything with you and him down. Remember the news? He has "gag" order concerning his $362,000. So what is the point? As to him wanting a job with the state, do you really believe anyone is ever going to hire him. Not the Dems given his run in with Corzine and certainly not the R's given the fact he headed Republicans for Corzine. He has proved he can't be trusted. You hang with this guy and you will get the same reputation, you can't be trusted and you just go for the publicity. Is that the reputation you want for yourself and your blog?
