On the Ground in NJ-3
By Alex Smith | October 12, 2008
I'm on the ground in Ocean County this weekend! The southeastern half of Ocean County is part of New Jersey's Third Congressional District. The 3rd is currently a major 2008 battleground. Camco lawyer John Adler has spent huge sums of cash to turn the district blue and defeat Medford Mayor Chris Myers.
The latest polling shows Myers developing a small but significant lead.
So what did I observe on the ground?
1. Republicans are fired up. Blatantly biased media coverage + cult-like Obama support = an angry and mobilized Republican base.
2. Independents are (still) up for grabs. Voters look at their 401(k) statement and want to blame Bush. But then they look at Barack Obama and release a collective "ehhh." The electorate is still in flux.
3. The GOP has lots of volunteers. Once more.... Blatantly biased media coverage + cult-like Obama support = an angry and mobilized Republican base.
4. NJ-3 Republicans are optimistic. Talk to any GOP pol from NJ-3 and, invariably, every answer beings with "When Chris wins/goes to Washington/beats Adler." They have every right to be optimistic. The latest polls have McCain slightly down but Myers slightly up. Those kinds of results indicate the strength of your candidate.
5. Republicans are gearing up for 2009. Everything is done with an eye towards 2009. Presidential election years should be growth cycles for parties. That appears to be true of 2008 for the NJGOP.

Jersey's Top Lawman Denies

This really isn't news. Ocean County has traditionally gone Republican.

What are the odd's that Steve Rotham will get voted out of office? I'm voting R and would rather not have my vote wasted.

Great to hear people are gearing up for 2009 .... The Republican base will only be enhanced by the additional 1000s of activists in Ocean County that will also support Steve Lonegan for Governor, and will bring out to help Republicans county wide, in 09.
