Bob Torricelli Needs to Go Away
By Matt Rooney | September 5, 2008
I'm a big believer in letting bygones be bygones, but Bob Torricelli's continued hubris is simply intolerable.
Torricelli's latest verbal diarrhea, reflecting on the Republican National Convention, illustrates my point:
How dare you, Bob! Explain to me how a big government liberal, forced from office by numerous and embarrassing ethics violations, can accuse an American POW of selfishness? John McCain has always put his country first. Bob Torricelli put New Jersey last and his own greed first for the entire dismal duration of his disgraced political career. Now he spends his days picking ridiculous fights with The Bergen Record and hosting fundraising cocktail hours for "Corzine 2009."
You and your corrupt buddies are responsible for New Jersey's economic turmoil. As a result, New Jerseyans are fleeing to North Carolina, hoping to afford a dignified retirement, while you sip fine wines and whine on about the "dishonesty" of John McCain?
Do us all a favor and join the exodus you helped engender.

The only worse case is the very notion of "Country First". Somebody will have to explain. How is it putting "Country First" when you promote a wholly unqualified junior governor with no national or international experience in line for the Presidency? Sounds to me like he's putting his campaign first. There's nothing here, of course, that every speaker at the Republican Convention doesn't already know. I'd just feel better if that hidden camera caught them laughing . I'd rather that they were cynical but smart as opposed to being stupid and sincere.

I think Bob forgot the part where McCain went after fellow Republicans...at a Republican convention.
Then again Bob likes to forget things and how he is a disgrace to public service.

I'm appalled at the idea that any American would accuse a man like John McCain of selfishness. He served his country honorably (unlike certain draft dodging presidents from our recent past) and even endured the hardship of being a POW. That sort of national loyalty is what makes our country the strongest and most honorable the world has ever seen. However, in response to Mr. Torricelli's argument, I have one question: How would it be putting "country first" by promoting a wholly unqualified senator who has written two memoirs but no major legislation in his career, has minimal congressional experience and no executive background in line for the presidency? Perhaps it would serve him well to consider the flaws and inexperience of his own party's nomination before attempting to besmirch the reputation of true Americans like John McCain.
